If you see the following error when trying to open the old 1SE app for Android:

an update to Google Drive and/or Google Play services is what's causing this issue. Please try clearing the cache and app data for both the Google Play Store and Google Play Services from your Android app settings menu. Also, please make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Play Services app. Hopefully, that will make it work again. 🙏

We stopped updating our old Android app in October 2018 and no longer offer support for it since November 2019.

When we released the new app, we announced it and messaged that we would no longer be updating or supporting this other app.

Long story short is that phone makers like to create their flavor of Android, each with different amounts of access to select features. The result was a random compatibility list where each phone had different issues with the app by phone model. The problem only gets worse every time a new version of Android comes out because it breaks the custom modifications these phone makers have made with their phones. Which means, we have no idea when that old app will stop working for some. This time it was you, but a couple of months ago, it was someone else, and a few months from now, it will be another group of people. We truly wish we could have made it clearer for all that it was in your best interest that we were asking you to move away from that old app as soon as possible.

The ability to migrate all existing snippets on the old app to the new one was our #1 priority when we started working on it. Unfortunately, since our old Android app was not created in-house, trying to keep up with code that was not our own became a real challenge.

Since technology is always evolving, our old app got more and more unwieldily over time. Every time something changed on the platform (Android 8.0, Android 9.0, ...) we are forced to release a small patch to keep it working, that's why we decided to start from scratch.

We are all 1SE users in the team and have suffered having to make this decision due to technical limitations. Therefore, we can understand if you feel frustrated by this.

Read more on why we had to create a new app from scratch.

I hope this gives you further insight as to why we can no longer assist you on this matter, and sorry that this is the case.

If you want to try locating your snippets on your device, please use a File Manager app (some of the popular ones are ES File Explorer, Total Commander, or FX File Explorer) and in the settings of that app, enable "Show hidden files."

Once you've done this, please look for a folder called ".1second" right in the root directory. There you should find all of your projects and snippets structured in folders.

You can manually back up this information to wherever you find it more convenient (to make sure you don't lose them), or you can use it to put back every second into the app manually.

You mustn't modify this folder by adding or removing files.

Hope it helps!
